UWA has a very significant effort in research on different aspects of water and there is an estimated >170 staff and postgraduate students involved. There is internationally significant research capabilities in the fields of water and the environment, water and food and social and economic aspects of water management.
An analysis of funding sources for research on water at UWA over the last three years revealed a strong spread of support for R&D across the fundamental to applied research continuum, with the Australian Research Council, the CRC Water Sensitive Cities, GRDC and DAFF dominating. There are existing collaborations with the WA Department of Water and WA Water Corporation.
Mapping of UWA capability against the future global and Australian issues in water management revealed that the University is currently positioned to contribute in some major areas.
