Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established in 1994, and it is the sixth member of the IIT fraternity. From 1995, IIT Guwahati started its academic programme and presently it consists of eleven departments, seven inter-disciplinary academic centres and five schools. The institute offers programmes such as B.Tech., B.Des., M.A., M.Des., M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA and Ph.D. which covers all the major engineering, science, healthcare, management and humanities disciplines.
Apart from various advanced scientific and engineering research across the departments, works related to sustainable water management, hydrology, economics, quantity, quality, water and wastewater treatment technologies are being carried out intensively at IIT Guwahati.
In regards to such intensive research outputs, IIT Guwahati has been ranked 384 in QS world ranking, and 8th among eminent research university of India recently in 2022. The dynamic and robust work culture and thrust for betterment of conventional techniques has been the key to success for the researchers at IITG. The collaboration between Australia and India for water research would be a grand success and IITG would take a prominent role to deliver its research output for the betterment of the society.
