Surface and groundwater geochemistry and modelling with a focus on soil-water interactions, agriculture and landscape repair in the Anthropocene.
Biography
Dr Jason K. Reynolds is an environmental geochemist at Western Sydney University with 15 years' experience researching the biogeochemistry of soils, sediments and waters, with particular expertise in peatlands and acid sulfate soils and their associated impacts on water quality. His work examines carbon and nutrient dynamics in world-heritage peatlands and the effects of bushfire, drought and erosion on these vulnerable systems, alongside the mobilisation of acidity and trace elements from acid sulfate soils and the consequences for terrestrial and estuarine water quality. He is Program Lead for Environmental Sciences at Western Sydney University, President of the New South Wales Branch of Soil Science Australia, and a member of the Soil Science Australia Federal Accreditation Board. Dr Reynolds has published peer-reviewed papers on peatland soil carbon loss, sulfur and microbial controls on soil biodiversity, trace-element geochemistry in coastal acid sulfate landscapes, and nutrient cycling and recovery.
